You’ve heard of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Well, Tony Schwartz, CEO of consulting firm The Energy Project is adding four more to the list. In a video for Harvard Business Review, Schwartz shares his advice on how to increase productivity.
How to increase productivity and get stuff done.
- Set a regular bedtime: scheduling a regular bedtime is a great way to ensure you get the 7 hours you need to stay healthy and stay productive through even the most hectic days.
- Prioritize one key task per day: decide the night before what task you need to get done the next day, then knock it out early when you have the most time and energy — and the fewest distractions.
- Keep a list of ideas and tasks: this tip from an efficiency guru made me feel like a superstar because I already do it! I can personally attest to productivity-boosting power of lists. Having a to-do list means I don’t have to rely on my uncertain memory. Plus, having all my tasks laid out in black and white (or yellow and red) keeps me from feeling overwhelmed.
- Identify triggers: once you’ve identified what trigger your productivity slumps, you can develop strategies for dealing with them.
Schwarts also talks about the importance of habits in general in the video. He’s full of great advice, and I encourage you to watch the whole thing.
Do you have any productivity tips? We’d love to see your advice in the comments!
