My favorite teacher was Mrs. Moore in 12th grade English. She took a group of us to England, Spain, and France.

  • I want to shoutout to my teacher Mr.Jackson. He is. Great teacher. His teaching style fits well with my learning style and he is very understanding. Also i want to say I come from a very low income family of 10. This month, our finance has been short and my parents are struggling to pay the bills.. I don’t want my education to be stressful to my parents.. Giveaways like these gives me hope and I want to say thank you.

Mrs. Williams was my favorite teacher bc she built relationships her students and made them feel important; she had passion to teach which got us excited to learn; compassion towards her students which made us feel special; and she understood students who struggled and worked hard to meet their needs.

I would like to thank my 12th grade Trigonometry teacher, Dr. Roger Sullenberger. I never liked math until I was a student in Dr. Sullenberger’s trig class. He made math meaningful to me, and that is an incredible feat for any teacher. He was witty, smart, and really showed us different ways of understanding trigonometric functions. I was so excited when I consistently got A’s and B’s on quizzes and tests. When I was senior in college, Dr. Sullenberger taught Calculus at the university I attended. Even though I was a psych major at the time, I needed an elective and ended up taking that Calculus class–yes, as an elective–lol! As I went on to earn my masters in special education, which eventually led to my teaching career, I continued to develop a love of teaching my students math concepts. I try to make it fun, interesting, and relatable–just as Dr. Sullenberger did for me all those years ago. There are days in my classroom, in which my students have the same dislike for math as I did, and when they change their tune, and actually understand it, I do a “happy dance” in my classroom–lol! It’s because I see that same turn-around that I had in that Trigonometry class. I am blessed to have had Dr. Sullenberger in high school as well as college.

I have two teacher shout-outs. The first is for my fourth grade teacher, EILEEN GULBRANSEN, at Ostrandrer Elementary School in Wallkill, New York. She helped me adjust to a new school at a time when my dad was being sent back to Vietnam for his second tour of duty. She was there for me every day–even gave me her phone number for the holidays–because I couldn’t talk to my mom about my anxieties. The second shout-out is for my daughter AMANDA PHILLIPS down in South Carolina. She is starting her education career, and she has taught me a lot about some of the latest innovations in methodology and guidance for adolescents, especially the troubled ones.
