Columbus Day 2012: here, have some fun trivia.

So, Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492, but how old is Columbus Day? Office Ink rounds up some Columbus Day trivia.

  • New York City held the first America’s first Columbus Day celebration in 1792 to celebrate the 300th anniversary.
  • One hundred years later, President Benjamin Harrison issued a proclamation encouraging Americans to mark the anniversary of Columbus’ voyage with patriotic festivities. “On that day let the people, so far as possible, cease from toil and devote themselves to such exercises as may best express honor to the discoverer and their appreciation of the great achievements of the four completed centuries of American life.”
  • President Franklin Roosevelt finally made Columbus Day an official federal holiday in 1937.
  • Columbus day was originally observed every October 12, but was fixed to the second Monday of October in 1971.
  • For many, the holiday is a way of both honoring Columbus’ achievements and celebrating Italian-American heritage. That’s my excuse for having a big plate of spaghetti tonight.

You can find out more about Columbus, and pick up all sorts of historical trivia at history.com. Whether you’re at work or enjoying a day off, I hope you’re having a great Columbus Day!

Backyard Barbeque Checklist: Pick up 4th of July decorations and more at OnTimeSupplies.com.

The 4th of July is still a few days away, but I can already taste my mom’s potato salad & ribs. My contribution to my family’s backyard barbeque will be comparatively modest; I’ll be manning the blender at the daiquiri station. Far away from the actual grilling is the best place for me!

Use the Backyard Barbeque Checklist to ensure your 4th of July party is a success!

Planning a backyard barbeque for the 4th? Office Ink doesn’t want you to have to leave the party to go to the store because you guys ran out of napkins.  We want you at the backyard barbeque, eating way too much red meat.  Use our checklist & you won’t forget anything.

1.  4th of July decorations: balloons, a nice flag and festive disposable tablecloths are all you need.
2.  Plenty of folding chairs.
3.  Disposable plates and bowls, plastic cutlery, disposable cups, paper napkins and serving utensils
4.  Plastic food containers for leftovers

You know, you can skip the big crowds & long lines at the grocery store and pick up 4th of July decorations and other last minute supplies at OnTimeSupplies.com.  OnTimeSupplies.com will get your order to you fast — typically in just 24-48 hours. Or you can pick up your backyard barbeque supplies at on their 70 nationwide distribution centers. Check out the list for the warehouse near you.

Have a great backyard barbeque and Independence Day weekend!

See fun Easter candy in the shape of cool office supplies.

Attention Easter Bunnies: here’s what I want to see in my basket this year – cool office supplies made of chocolate!

Chocolate Computer Keyboard

The “Chocolator”

Cool office supplies set made of chocolate
Good thing that computer keyboard isn’t real. Otherwise, sticky keys would be a real problem. And that cool office supplies set is just precious! Look at the tiny chocolate rotary phone! Vintage and tasty. But I think the Chocolator is my favorite, and it isn’t even made of chocolate.  It just smells like it. As if I didn’t already expect a candy reward for doing math!

You can be your own Easter bunnies, guys. Just order Easter candy online at OnTimeSupplies.com.

I work from home, so there are no office Easter bunnies to fill my basket. I’ll have to buy my own Easter candy. The “April Showers” are in full effect here in Chicago. Rather than risk pneumonia to satisfy my sweet tooth, I’ll just order from OnTimeSupplies.com. They’ll deliver my candy right to my doorstep, and thanks to their super speedy shipping, my candy will arrive in time for Easter!
  • Tootsie Rolls: a total classic.
  • Caramel Cremes: mmm…my favorite! Spoiling my appetite for dinner never tasted so good.
  • Jelly Bellies: You can’t celebrate Easter without jelly beans. Plus, I’ll be ready for so fruity flavors after all that rich chocolate and caramel.

Why not treat yourself to some grownup Easter candy from OnTimeSupplies.com? Consider it your reward for not eating ALL of your kids’ candy! Have a great Easter!
